We offer a range of clinics and services at the surgery. There are some tasks you can do, such as health reviews, using our online forms or through the questionnaires we might send you via text message or email.
Baby clinic
The health visitors no longer provide a baby weighing service on site but there is a clinic at Moss Bank Children’s Centre, Kentmere Avenue, Moss Bank, St Helens WA11 7PQ every Wednesday, 9:30am to 11:30am (appointment only). To book an appointment please call the team on 01744 411277.
Babies due for their six-week developmental check will now be seen at the practice by appointment on Thursdays from 11:00am onwards. Please have your baby weighed at Moss Bank Children’s Centre the day before.
Immunisations (babies and pre-school) are generally on a Thursday afternoon. Please book with our practice nurse.
Cervical smear tests
We recommend that all women between the ages of 25 and 49 years who are or have been sexually active have a smear test taken every three years. Women between 50 and 65 should have smear test at five yearly intervals. Over 65’s need not be screened unless they have never had a smear or have had an abnormal result recently.
The test is a quick pain-free procedure undertaken by the practice nurse.
If you are invited to have a smear test please contact the surgery to make an appointment. You cannot be tested while you are menstruating so be sure to make your appointment before or after your period is due.
It is important to attend for screening as the test can identify women who are at risk of developing cervical cancer before the disease actually starts.
Family planning
The practice does not currently offer family planning services on site but has a subcontracting arrangement with Rainford Health Centre on Higher Lane. Contact the practice for further details.
The sexual health and contraception service based within St Helens Hospital, offer both day & evening appointments Monday to Friday, phone 01744 646473 to book an appointment.
Health visitors
The health visitor attached to the practice can be contacted on 01744 411277.

Maternity care
Maternity care is usually arranged on a shared basis between ourselves, your midwife and a specialist at one of the local maternity units. The midwife-led antenatal clinic is held on alternate Thursdays between 1pm and 3:40pm. Please make an appointment at reception.
Minor surgery
Doctors do not undertake minor surgery in this practice. Certain joint injections may be arranged, if appropriate, at a different practice within St Helens North PCN through the Extended Access Service following an initial consultation.
NHS Health check plus
NHS health checks are being offered to people aged between 40 and 74 once every five years. The check is to assess your risk of developing heart disease, stroke, kidney disease or diabetes. By taking early action, you can improve your health and prevent the onset of these conditions. There is good evidence for this. Patients who already suffer from one of the above mentioned conditions will not be invited for the health check as they should already attend for annual reviews with the GP or Practice Nurse.
The check should take about 20 minutes and is based on straightforward questions and measurements such as age, sex, family history, height, weight and blood pressure. There will also be a fasting blood test to measure your cholesterol level which you must have at least 2 days before attending for the health check so that we have your results back. Following the check, you will receive personalised advice about what you can do to stay healthy.
If you feel you are eligible and haven’t yet been invited, please ring the surgery on 01744 882606 and say you would like an NHS health check. We will check your eligibility and prepare a form for the blood test if you are eligible. You will need to book in for the health check with the practice nurse or nursing associate after your blood test.

Annual reviews
In order to streamline the recall process and make it more efficient and less-time consuming for patients we have implemented a month of birth recall process for patients with long term conditions.
Long term conditions include illnesses such as:
- respiratory disease
- heart disease
- stroke/TIA
- diabetes
- kidney disease
- high blood pressure
- rheumatoid arthritis
- epilepsy
- mental health problems
- other long term health issues that affect the health or lifestyle of a patient
These conditions require an annual review to ensure that the condition is being managed appropriately (by you the patient and also by us as your healthcare provider), identify any problems or concerns and ensure patients are confident to deal with their condition(s) between reviews.
How does the process work?
Patients with long term conditions will be invited to attend for their annual review during the month of their birthday. If you have more than one long term condition we aim to review all within the one annual review where possible, thereby reducing the number of times we ask you to attend the surgery.
For some conditions, it may be necessary to have more than one appointment for example, a separate appointment for spirometry for some respiratory conditions. In some cases it may also be necessary to have a further appointment with the Practice Nurse or the GP, but most reviews will take place in one appointment with our Practice Nurse who has knowledge and experience of managing patients with long term conditions.
Some conditions may require an interim review or repeat blood tests, e.g. at six months. This will be discussed at the annual review where it is felt to be appropriate.
If you feel you are due for an annual review for any of the above conditions but have not been invited to the Practice in your birth month please contact us.
